Open Minds, Opens Doors, A Page from Leonardo da Vinci's Sketchbook.

Hello, fellow thinkers and explorers!

Let's dive right into a conversation that's as fascinating as it is important. You know, I often reflect on the wise words attributed to Albert Einstein about everyone being a genius, and it gets me thinking about the way we each shine in our own right. This idea really hits home when we think about historical figures who were the epitome of thinking differently. And who better to illustrate this than the ultimate Renaissance man himself, Leonardo da Vinci?

Leonardo's Divergent Genius:

Da Vinci was the poster child for divergent thinking – his mind danced between art, science, engineering, anatomy, and more, often blending them in ways no one had ever seen. This was a man who could paint the iconic 'Mona Lisa' and turn around to sketch the precursors to modern-day flying machines. And guess what? He probably would've been a terrible accountant!

The thing about Leonardo was that he wasn't just brilliant in one area; his curiosity and way of thinking didn't fit neatly into the boxes of his time. He had this extraordinary ability to look at a problem from multiple angles – to see the interconnections between different fields and to imagine solutions that no one else could. It's that divergent, creative, boundary-pushing thinking that's at the heart of Einstein's quote. It's about recognizing that sometimes, the genius comes from not just climbing a single tree but planting a whole new one.

Why We Need to Nurture Divergent Thinking:

Now, let's bring it back to us. In our schools, workplaces, and personal lives, we often come across the 'climbing tree' expectations. But what if we're not tree-climbers? What if we're swimmers, like our fish, or flyers, like Leonardo imagined? Embracing the full spectrum of our abilities means fostering environments where divergent thinking isn't just accepted; it's encouraged.

I get excited about this in the realms of education, business and personal development. Imagine creating spaces where someone who thinks in 3D or dreams in vivid colors is just as valued as the person who can recite Pi to the hundredth digit. It's about helping each other tap into our 'inner Leonardos,' our own brand of genius, whatever that may be.

So how about we take a page from da Vinci's own sketchbook? Let's never shy away from asking questions without immediate answers, connect seemingly unconnected ideas, and cultivate our curiosity. Whether we're guiding the next generation, coaching a team, or just figuring out our own paths, let's remember that we each have our own genius – our own ways of thinking and seeing the world.

Don't worry if you feel like you're trying to climb a tree when you're built to paint a masterpiece or invent a new machine. There's room in this world for all kinds of thinkers – the analysts, the dreamers, the creators, and everyone in between. And if you ever want to have a deep dive into the vast ocean of your unique abilities and how to harness them, you know where to find me. Let's make Leonardo proud and think in ways that turn the world on its head!

Cheers to the geniuses we are and to the ones we're becoming and those that are coming.
